'Tarot' is a 2024 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg (in their feature film directorial debuts) with Nicholas Adams co-writing.  It is based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope. Jacob Batalon, Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika, Wolfgang Novogratz, Humberly González, Larsen Thompson, and Olwen Fouéré have roles in the film.

A group of seven college friends - Haley, Grant, Paxton, Paige, Madeline, Lucas, and Elise - rent a secluded mansion in the Catskill Mountains to celebrate Elise's birthday. While exploring the estate, they stumble upon an antique Tarot card deck hidden away in a dusty attic. Intrigued, the friends read each other's fortunes, only to realize the cards revealed dark premonitions about their fates. As they attempt to uncover the origins of the ominous Tarot deck, the friends are killed off one by one in increasingly gruesome ways, their deaths mirroring the foreboding images depicted on the cursed cards. With time running out, the remaining friends must race to unmask the deadly secrets behind the Tarot deck. This is before they too fall victim to its ancient, supernatural power.

Production

Tarot was produced on a modest $8 million budget by Screen Gems, Alloy Entertainment, and Ground Control. It marked the feature film directorial debut of Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg. They co-wrote the screenplay based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope. Principal photography will take place in 2022, following the announcement of the cast.

Tarot was Originally scheduled for June 28, 2024 release. However, it was moved up to May 10, 2024, before settling on a final premiere date of May 3, 2024 in the United States. It was distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.

Reception

Tarot received negative reviews from critics, who felt the film relied too heavily on tired supernatural horror tropes. It failed to deliver truly frightening or innovative scares.
